Set Up Your Windows XP for Remote Desktop access

You must first enable the Remote Desktop feature on your XP computer . You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to enable Remote Desktop on your Windows XP Professional-based computer.

1. Open the System folder in Control Panel. (start - settings - control panel - system)

2. On the Remote tab, select the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box. Notice the user selected must be defined with a password. You can configure users in control panel - User Accounts.

3. Ensure the user have the proper permissions to connect to your computer remotely, and click OK.

Note If you're running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and you enable Remote Desktop, Windows Firewall will be automatically configured to allow Remote Desktop connections to your computer. However, Remote Desktop will not work if you have Windows Firewall configured to allow no exceptions. To allow exceptions in Windows Firewall, in the control panel open the Security Center, click Windows Firewall and clear the check box next to Don't allow exceptions.

If you have a firewall box installed, the port Remote Desktop uses is 3389, and it must be open for access from outside.

If the Windows Mobile phone uses a phone network, you must first configure the Router in front of the Windows Workstation PC to forward port 3389 to the PC, and in RDP : menu - edit - Windows IP address use the Router IP address seen from the Internet.
